The Emergency Assistance Program for Small and Medium-Sized Businesses aims to support, for a limited period, eligible businesses who are experiencing financial difficulties due to COVID-19 and who need cash under $ 50,000.

The Nova Scotia provincial government is working with post-secondary partners to offer education, training and guidance for small businesses. A centralized online hub will connect businesses with support programs available from post-secondary institutions and other regional organizations. Business support workers will help connect businesses with the programs they need.

Canada Emergency Commercial Rent Assistance for Small Businesses

This program, in partnership with the federal government, will provide rent relief for commercial small businesses that have temporarily ceased operations or lost at least 70 per cent of revenue because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The program is intended to offset costs for COVID-19 safety and training, including the costs for personal protective equipment and to remove any barriers to get Albertans safely working.

The Yukon Business Relief Program provides non-repayable grants of up to $30,000 per month to cover fixed costs, including rent, water, sewer, electricity, internet or insurance.

The Department of Community and Government services is providing an additional $2 million to municipalities to cover expenses related to COVID-19.

The SEED program will be used to help businesses recover as the COVID-19 pandemic subsides and encourage new, innovative proposals that reflect the realities of the new post-COVID-19 economy.

Extending the Work-Sharing program

The Federal Government is extending the maximum duration of the Work-Sharing program from 38 weeks to 76 weeks for employers affected by COVID-19.

The Federal Government established a Business Credit Availability Program (BCAP) to provide additional support through the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) and Export Development Canada (EDC).

The Canada Emergency Business Account (CEBA) will provide interest-free loans of up to $40,000 to small businesses and not-for-profits.

Canada Emergency Commercial Rent Assistance

The Federal Government reached an agreement in principle with all provinces and territories to implement the Canada Emergency Commercial Rent Assistance (CECRA) for small businesses. This program will lower rent by 75 per cent for small businesses that have been affected by COVID-19.

The Federal Government is providing $80 million for the Student Work Placement Program to support up to 20,000 post-secondary students across Canada to obtain paid work experience related to their field of study.
