Tourism and Hospitality Emergency Recovery (THER) Project: Resiliency Planning for the Sector

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Tourism and Hospitality sector was among the hardest-hit with regards to workforce challenges. In response, the Tourism and Hospitality Emergency Recovery (THER) project worked across Canada to accelerate destination-based recovery and to prototype tools and resources to future proof the sector in times of similar crisis.

Funded by the Government of Canada’s Future Skills Centre, the project leveraged OTEC’s workforce development collaboration and capacity-building approach to support workforce recovery planning. Consultations with industry leaders from coast to coast uncovered the specific challenges and barriers that were faced in these recovery efforts.

With a solutions-oriented approach, the project:

  • Developed a “tools, resources, and models” playbook to address the identified challenges.
  • Shared the findings and lessons learned with industry stakeholders and policymakers, as well as our partners in the network.

The findings and lessons learned alongside industry stakeholders and policymakers can be found in the reports linked below, which provide ideas, insights, tools, and solutions to support tourism recovery and help shockproof the industry against future disruption.
